Under this caption, the Richmond Examiner publishes an extract from a petition to the Va. Legislature, written in 1848, by Hon. A. H. H. Stuart of this place. The Examiner says:

"The prediction then made in reference to the Pacific railroad as an inevitable event is being verified, notwithstanding it was then regarded, by many, as extravagant and impossible. Mr. Stuart has always been noted for practical good sense and sagacity in reference to this class of questions, and we regret that in stead of the empty honor of a seat in Congress, he is not now a member of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth, where so much remains to be done to promote and develop our material resources."
