We understand, says the Gazette, that Mr. Townsend resided in Eldridge street. We learn that the yawl had proceeded about one mile from the ship, on her way to the pilot boat, when a sea struck her abaft, where the passengers were seated, whose weight, together with the influx of water, completely swamped the boat. The wind on Saturday was unusually strong from the northwest, and the sea, of course was extremely rough.—N. Y. American.
