Charles-Town, South Carolina, April 17.

For this week past a very suspicious vessel has been several times seen both to the N. and S. of this Bar. Supposed to be a Spanish privateer: She is a brig. of 12 or 14 guns few of which she shows, with black sides, boot-topped white, and a horse head painted white. Thursday she chased Mr. Duval's pilot boat great part of the day, after being so near that one of the pilots in her was going to board and only prevented by discovering her deck to be full of men lying flat on their bellies; when the pilots hailed her, they were answered in broken English, that he came from Providence. When he gave over chase, he stood off to the S. E: the wind then blowing at E. by N.
