Speaking of the growing wheat crop, the Metropolis Times says: 'We have taken pains to ascertain what the prospects are, for the condition of the crop at this season is a matter of general interest. We are able to report that the prospects, with a very few exceptions, are exceedingly fine. The season has been almost universally favorable to the growth of the young plants, and giving them a strong start and aside from some fears of danger from excessive growth in a few places, and the presence of the Hessian fly in others, the condition is presented as not inferior to that of any former year at the same period. The acreage sown is considerably larger than last year.'
