E. P. Kittinger has been appointed general plant manager for Carolina Telephone Company, effective November 1, replacing A. X. Mason, deceased. This is announced by J. K. Avent, vice president, operations.
Kittinger, a native of Rocky Mount, Virginia, graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a B. S. Degree. He served 2 1/2 years in the U. S. Army in an armored division and saw duty in France and Germany. He was discharged with the rank of captain.
Kittinger joined Carolina Telephone in 1946 as a junior engineer in the Traffic Department. He subsequently served as a supervisor in that department and as traffic manager in the New Bern and Fayetteville districts. In 1956 he was staff assistant at Fayetteville and the following year was named Plant Department staff assistant in Tabor City. During this period Kittinger spent ten months on special assignment with the Public Relations Department in connection with rate case public and employee information.
In 1958 he was appointed as assistant in Tabor City and became general commercial supervisor in 1959.
Kittinger is married to the former Rose Leggette of Williston and they are the parents of twins, Connie and E. J., 10.
He is a member and deacon of Mount Tabor Memorial Presbyterian Church, Tabor City.
Active in civic and community affairs, Kittinger was past president of the New Bern Rotary Club and a former cubmaster of Pack 13y, Tabor City.
