WIFE DANGEROUSLY HURT
BY HUSBAND, WHO FLEES.

Contoocook, N. H., Sept. 14.-The local
authorities were active in their search
today for Thomas Gregory who inflicted
a severe wound with an axe on his wife's
head during the night and then disappeared from his home. The assault is
alleged to have resulted from a quarrel.

Mrs. Gregory early today was in a serious
condition and the physician who examined
her stated that the wound might prove
fatal.

Both Gregory and his wife are about
45 years of age.
