Two Armed Men Attack C. C. Coyne and Escape With Money From Pharmacy in Moline.
Two men not more than 25 years of age about 9:30 last night entered the pharmacy of C. C. Coyne, 2315 Fifth avenue, Moline.
One asked for a box of pills. Mr. Coyne asked the size desired and when informed turned his back to take it from the shelf.
When he turned around he found one of the men had moved to his side and the other was pointing a revolver at him.
"Put 'em up," commanded one of them.
"Put what up?" asked Mr. Coyne.
"Put up your hands and be quick about it," was the answer.
At that Mr. Coyne moved as if to go to the rear of the store. One of the men slugged him and he fell against an ice cream container.
The man behind the counter searched Coyne's pockets, removing a purse containing $125 and then emptied the cash register while the other one stood guard with the gun.
They conversed in low tones and attracted no attention, although several persons passed the store.
The job done the men walked quietly from the store. Mr. Coyne recovered himself sufficiently to call the police, but no trace of the men could be found.
"I thought I might be able to bluff them and go get my gun," said Mr. Coyne today, explaining his move toward the rear of the store.
Sixty dollars of that stolen was government money, having been taken in at the postal station maintained in the store. The larger part of the money came from Mr. Coyne's pockets, but a little was taken from the register. All but some small change he had removed from the till just before the men entered and had stopped to light a cigar before placing it in the safe.
Both men are described as tall and slender.
