THE NEW-YORK ELECTIONS.

Notwithstanding the exultation of the federalists, have turned out more to the advantage of republicanism than ever. By the new census, the State will send 17 members to Congress instead of 10; and the federalists, having a majority in the State Senate, succeeded in arranging the election districts in such a manner as to throw the federal parts of two into one, &c. so as to effect an election in their favor. They claim 5 out of the 17 members, leaving the republicans 12, which is as great a disproportion as was before, the parties standing 3 to 7 at the election. Besides, the whole republican ticket for Senators for the great western district is (for the first time) carried, so that there will be a majority of republicans in the Senate. Thus, considering the vast majority against the federalists in the Assembly, they may bid "a long farewell to all their greatness" in the State of New-York.

New-Jersey is firm on the right side. Of Pennsylvania and the southern and western States, who has doubts? Vermont is good. Rhode-Island is better. New-Hampshire voted for Governor about 15 to 14 in favor of federalism, but her legislature is republican. Massachusetts is federal yet. And Connecticut more so. Thus stands the account. So that there is but two federal legislatures in the Union. Yet the federalists profess to hope, and exult! [N.L. Bee.

Who can wonder that the simple little Editor of the Mercury should suppose that "the sun of federalism is emerging"!!
