A TRIBUTE TO MERIT.
COLONEL BOYD.
Of this valuable officer very little is known in Virginia-and the following sketch may therefore be interesting:
Col. Boyd, is now about 40 years of age, was born at or near Boston : having imbibed an early attachment to arms, he qualified himself for a military life at the place of his nativity, and then emigrated to the East Indies, with but little more than his sword, and his bravery --He was soon employed in the East India and rapidly rose to the rank of general. About ten years ago he returned to America, with fame, honor and fortune-and tho' rich, sought and obtained military employment in the service of the United States. How well he has deserved the confidence of his country, is amply attested by the hurt which he sustained in the late memorable action on the Wabash.
