THE NEWPORT MEETING.

We perceive by the Journal, that the meeting which was called at Newport, for the purpose, doubtless, of consulting on the best manner of lowering the Webster flag, after appointing ex-lieut. gov. Engs, Chairman, resolved Unanimously that the notices for calling said meeting "had not been transmitted in season to enable the electors to attend"—and appointing next Saturday evening for the next meeting. We are really afraid the "notices will not be transmitted in season."

Now this is all humbug—a thing gotten up by the "Sorrel Pony"—the "man with no head," and a few other choice spirits, who wish to keep the State in constant commotion in the hope of promoting their own selfish purposes.

We do not know it to be a fact, but we'll lay a small wager there were not a dozen persons present. The next adjournment will probably be ascribed to "apathy."
