At a meeting of the State
Grange at Buckhannon, this state,
last week, Hon. H. E. Williams,
of this county, announced his
candidacy for the republican nomination
for commissioner of agriculture,
the new office created by
act of the last legislature of West
Virginia. Mr. Williams stated
that he has received encouragement
to his candidacy from many
counties of the state, and more
especially from leading agriculturists
and stock raisers. Mr.
Williams is well and favorably
known throughout the state and
has spent almost his entire life
in agricultural pursuits. It is said
that there are several other gentlemen
talked of as possible candidates
for this office, whose
names have not yet been made
public, which seems to indicate
that when the time comes the
question will not be, "who will
we have?" but "which will we
have?"
