A correspondent of the Wilkes Republican published in Washington, Ga., contributes to that paper, the following letter in which he pays quite a compliment to our host of the "Marshall House," and the liberality and public spirit of our citizens generally, and gives quite a glowing account of the various improvements which are in progress here:
Mr. Daly is an architect of varied experience, and seems fully competent to the performance of anything in his professional capacity. He is introducing, in this part of the country, the latest and most modern styles of architecture. He is a man of great energy and untiring zeal. When the several excellent designs now in his hands, have been completed, Abbeville will bid fair to rival any city in the Union, in the beauty and elegance of her numerous mansions and villas.
The day was fine and pleasant; and I enjoyed a beautiful ride through a no less beautiful country, from Washington to Abbeville, passing in our way, the quiet and secluded village of Donalds, where nothing in particular seems to be doing, just now.
Abbeville is in altogether a flourishing condition; and I anticipate the most favorable results for the future. Her citizens, as well as those of the adjoining districts, are beginning to see the commercial advantages which a rail-road communication with your town would give them, and are making strenuous efforts, having for their object the construction of such communication.
I have a great deal more to say, but time and space oblige me to cut short my present communication.
