Religious Fanaticism
Religious fanaticism can lead mortals to terrible crimes as witness the case of the 23-year-old mother of Alameda, Calif., who admits killing her four-year-old child and putting his body into an incinerator because "Jesus told me to do it."
The woman, we suspect, is crazy perhaps along the line of religion. It is a common disease although not often resulting in such brutality and barbarism. Minor manifestations of the same symptoms are visible throughout the world.
There was a time, in the not very distant past, when men and women freely butchered those who did not accept the same religious tenets. In fact, some of the bloodiest wars in history revolved around religious differences. Contestants on both sides used the sword in the name of Jesus who gave the world an example of love and unselfishness.
They were convinced that they carried out the 'will of God.'
