Well now. Bro. Brown! Under this statement the Brumby faction had the majority.
As to the temporary chairman, you unquestionably chairman of the executive committee-had the right to name him.
True in similar meeting, when we held our silver meeting here on 2d of September last, such parliamentarians as his Highness Senator Blanchard and Mr. P. J. Trezevant, decided to the contrary: but all knew they were only attempting a cheap political trick, and no one believes that either would dare risk their parliamentary prestige by attempting such tactics in a deliberative body of men who would rather have right than win on a false position.
As both the Democrat and Beacon News appears to be so earnest in their respective convictions, The Progress hopes that all will be amicably settled yet. We too have been engaged in these factional fights and we have many times doubted if they were worth the candle; if the object to be obtained didn't lose its virtue and value when obtained at such a cost.
However, to both. The Progress extends the most cordial greeting, and expresses its sincere respects. hoping to yet see the olive branch borne by each towards the other with the declaration, "We'll bury all differences and hoisting the flag of Democracy will go out to the field and be in at the conquest when the ides of April will be telling their story of a battle well and nobly won."
