Extract of a letter from a general officer to his friend in this city, dated camp, in the Highlands, August 7, 1779.

A party of 100 horse, part continental and part militia, under the command of Colonel White, assisted by 50 infantry of Glover's brigade, engaged 300 of the enemy's horse and 200 infantry, at New Rochelle, the day before yesterday; in which we repulsed the enemy over all times, and made good our retreat with the loss of one killed, one wounded and one missing. We took eight horses with their accoutrements, &c. and killed fifteen of the enemy.
