The Democrats have solved the problem involved in the terrific task of raising a fund to meet the legitimate expenses of a national campaign to elect Franklin Roosevelt. The Republicans get their multiplied millions by securing heavy contributions from the privileged few—the tariff-protected manufacturers, the international bankers, the trust magnates, the railroad barons. The Democrats, realizing that this is people's fight to restore our government to the people, have reached the decision that their campaign fund must be made up of little contributions from the millions rather than from heavy doles out of the treasuries of privilege seeking corporations. In the words of Candidate Roosevelt: "Our battle is essentially on behalf of the plain citizen—the average citizen—and I would like to feel that every one of those citizens, regardless of his or her political affiliation should assume the position of a shareholder in the common enterprise, and that his or her contribution should represent an investment that is to return dividends of good government." The "Shareholders in America" campaign has been adopted by the Democratic National Committee for raising funds by popular subscription. The plan is designed to bring about quick intensive action on the part of a national organization. Each Shareholder contributing one dollar will receive a beautiful bronze medallion along with a "certificate of membership." There are local organizations in every county in the State and it is to local members of this organization that Democrats are making their contributions.
