French Friends and British ENEMIES--The brig Aurora arrived at New-York 7th inst. 45 days from Gibraltar, in ballast, was, on the 6th of Sept. in lat. 26, lon. 31. brought to and boarded by a French frigate that had chased her during the afternoon under English colors. The commandant declared her a good prize, and said were it haughtier times,' he should send her in, but as it was he should take from her what he wanted and permit her to proceed: a ransack took place on board the brig--trunks, lockers, &c. were tumbled over, and whiskey served out in profusion to the people, with whom the decks and cabin were filled- Of eight barrels of bread the captain ordered his officers to take six ; after a warm expostulation however, they took but two, a demijohn of rum, some hams, &c. and 1500 dollars in specie, belonging to a passenger on board. The officers refused to give the name of the ship or commander; one of them however had said she was the Clorinde. Two days before she had captured an English Packet bound to Barbadoes. On the 3d of October off the Capes of Virginia, was boarded by the English Brig of war Emulous, and treated with the utmost politeness.
