PROPHECY MADE HISTORY.—We find the following statement in the report of Hon. Kenneth Rayner's speech at Washington City a few days ago:

"Our late Minister to Spain, Mr. Barringer, stated to me, in Baltimore, that the Pope's Nuncio at the Court of Spain said to him, before the news of the formation of Pierce's Cabinet reached there, 'I can tell you one man that will be in the Cabinet. That will be Mr. Campbell, of Pennsylvania, as a member of the Catholic church.' This was evidence of a bargain with Bishop Hughes. It is against such humiliation that the people have aroused."

Upon the above, the Fayetteville Observer remarks:-

"This is certainly a most remarkable revelation. It is from a source which cannot be questioned; and we do not think that Mr. Rayner's inference from the fact is at all overstrained. The part which the Roman Catholics have been made to play in elections and other political movements for a few years past, led to suspicions that they had been tampered with in the Presidential election; and these suspicions appear to us to be confirmed by the fact stated by Mr. Barringer. The Roman Catholics move together, controlled by the will of one man, the head of their church in this country, the same Archbishop Hughes, whose unscrupulous character has been so clearly exposed in the late controversy with Mr. Brooks. There is no other denomination in the United States which moves in a solid body in elections.—There is no other which is composed mainly of foreigners. And these are the reasons why such a feeling of hostility to them has arisen throughout the United States."
