ATTEMPT AT HOUSE-BREAKING.—On Tuesday night, about the hour of twelve, Mr. Milton Price happening to pass in the neighborhood of Capt. John B. Tildon's residence, and hearing a peculiar noise in that direction, repaired to the house from whence the sound proceeded. When he reached the premises, he found a man named Patrick Butler at the front door, making strenuous efforts to effect an entrance, and at the same time swearing that if he was not admitted, he would push in the door. Capt. T. and family were absent at the time, and the only person on the lot was a female servant, who was nearly frightened out of her wits. Mr. Price, on seeing how matters stood, seized hold of the disciple of Jack Sheppard, and marched him off to the cage, where he was turned over to the tender mercies of Capt. Reid, who very kindly provided him with snug lodgings for the night. When brought before the Mayor next morning, the offender was ordered to give surety in the sum of $150 to keep the peace for twelve months—the bail not being forthcoming, he was sent to jail.
