Prospects on the Dry Farms Excellent This Season.
WHEATLAND, Wyo., June 28.- With several more rains during the season, this section of Wyoming will be assured banner crops this year. The Chugwater, Slater Flats and Hudson Valley districts report dry farmers to be making more progress than they have for years.
Prairie grass is said to be standing knee-high in the west part of Goshen Hole and a number of farmers are making hay on the open plains.
Beans are receiving a special play this year near here, farmers being of the opinion that no better crop can be raised under existing conditions. Bean planting is practically finished.
Growers are practically agreed that home grown seed cannot be beat, and this despite the complaint last year that there was very little good seed corn in this county. It has been found that a large percentage of poor stands here come from foreign seeds.
Potato beetles are reported by the county agent to be worse than for many years past. Other insect pests are numerous with the single exception of grasshoppers.
Hail and webworms have made inroads on sugar beets. The Great Western Sugar company is making an especial effort to be of assistance to growers in eradicating webworms and is advocating various measures of combat.
