The 100-Days Men.

Gov. Stone was at Davenport on the 5th inst. When at Washington he procured 10,000 Enfield rifles and had them promptly shipped to Davenport for the use of Iowa troops, and also clothing and equipments for 10,000 men. Gov. Stone, Ad. Gen. Baker and others addressed large audiences at Davenport on the evenings of the 4th and 5th, and it is reported that at Davenport two companies will soon be full. The enterprising and patriotic merchants have signed an agreement to reserve their situations for such of their clerks and employees as wish to enlist. The recruiting for the one hundred days service is going briskly on throughout the State of Iowa. DeWitt has already raised a full company, and they elected their officers on Saturday evening. In Dubuque they have raised two companies, one man Capt. Mathews, alone raised seventy three men. Let not Floyd county be behind in this noble work. Remember that the term of service is short and that the order for the remainder of the war, is "short and quick." The students of the State University at Iowa City have raised a full company for the One Hundred Days' service, from their own number. Such was the desire to enlist, that President Spencer was compelled to limit the number of recruits from each class by allotment. Prof. McKean and thirty students of the Bowen Collegiate Institute enlisted for the 100-days' service immediately on receiving the Governor's call. So many of the students volunteered as to cause the temporary suspension of the school. Gov. Stone received the following telegram at Davenport, a few days since.

Gov. Stone:

Thanks for your energy and promptness. Your force cannot be ready for the field too soon. Let me know whatever is wanted, and it will be supplied.

EDWIN M. STANTON.

Troops are coming into line from all sections to fill our quota for the one hundred days' call. The number to be furnished by this State will be a little less than two regiments for each Congressional District, or a little less than one for each Judicial District.
