THE LADY AND THE ACTOR.
While Garrick, wonder of the stage,
Astonished the preceding age
A lady, fair as May,
Young, wealthy, and of noble line,
For whom did many suitors pine,
Once went to see him play.
He acted a gay, gallant youth
With such vivacity and truth,
The lady's heart was won:
Her friends perceived how she was charmed
And greatly was their pride alarmed—
But what was to be done?
They took her, now, to see him act
The part of "Scrub," and 'tis a fact
That soon her dream was o'er;
He seemed so clownish, dull and plain,
The lady thence shunned Drury Lane,
And thought of G. no more.
This shows what great importance lies
In certain styles of outward guise,
Though still the man's the same;
And if you'd act a winning part
Seek Clothing from the shrine of art.
Which West-Emporium we name.
