Dr. Ernest Patty, president of the University of Alaska, accompanied by Mrs. Patty, visited Nome over the week-end. Dr. Patty has been in Alaska for 35 years, but strange as it may seem, this is his first trip to Nome.
Also accompanying Dr. Patty was his son, Stanton Patty, feature writer for the Seattle Times, also on his first visit to Nome.
While here, Dr. Patty was given a hearty welcome from many of his former University students and friends, including M. J. Walsh, regent of the University.
Dr. Patty expects to retire next year, and states he will devote his time to mining interests in Alaska and make his home in Seattle.
While here, Dr. Patty visited the mining area, and also inspected the new Arctic Research vessel, the Natchuk.
The University president stated that last year there were more than 800 students at U.A., and predicted that within two years there will probably be 1500 in regular attendance.
