Full Text

" The Richmond Enquirer has, in the publication of Gen. Dade's letter, without at the same time giving our commentary upon it, treated us with something like a want of his accustomed generosity. We are sure that the Enquirer did not intend to be unkind to us— yet when the discourtesy of Gen. Dade's letter is considered, we think that justice to us would have required the contemporaneous publication of the argument which refuted his proposition, without imitating his example."

We assure the Editor of the Culpeper Gazette, that we intended to manifest no want of generosity or kindness. If there were any discourtesy in Gen. Dade's letter, the Editor will do us the justice to confess that we omitted the passage. We struck out all its controversial carte and tierce, as far as we possibly could reach it. We assigned at the time the reasons for our re-publishing the letter.
