Full Text

Our war on the lakes and in Canada begins to attract much attention. Sir James is still determined to avoid anything like a decisive action with Chauncey. General Hampton is at Ogdensburg. A strong body of troops at Sackett's Harbour and the greater part of the troops at Fort George are expected at the north end of Lake Ontario, to strike some grand blow before winter closes the campaign. We think it not improbable that Kingston is their object. Every movement is big with events both in the new and old world.

Were we contending in a just and necessary war, two campaigns would not have so nearly passed away and witnessed our actual loss of territory. It is half our strength to know our cause is just. To have a bad cause and bad leaders is surely one of the greatest curses attendant on an army.

Last evening's mail from Boston brought nothing new.
