GEORGETOWN, (S.C.) July 16

We have been favored with the perusal of a letter from the Mail contractor which informs us that an attempt was made to rob the Northern Mail on the night of the 12th inst. The attack was made about half way between Black Rock Ferry and China Grove, by two men whose countenances could not be discovered owing to the darkness of the night. One of the villains seized the reins while the other was busied in untying the mail from the sulky: fortunately however, the horse took fright and broke loose from the man who held him. No other injury was sustained than the destruction of the sulky. The Contractor promises in future to arm his drivers.
