WITH BIG ONES
It was announced today by officials of the V.F.W. that prizes for the 1948 V.F.W. Fish Derby are now on display at the Nome Hardware Store.
All interested fishermen are cordially invited to inspect these prizes.
Every effort is being made to make this one of the most interesting derbies in Nome's history, said the official.
Prizes include some of the best fishing equipment available today. Shakespeare new Wonder Rods made with glass fibers will be featured as first prizes in the three classes.
Bill Wilcox, post commander, V.F.W., again advises early registration.
Several entries over the past week-end indicate some record-breaking fish are being taken:
John Fults at present is heading the list with a 21 1/2 inch greyling, weighing 2 lbs. 12 oz.
Sgt. Hall of ACS running close second with a 20 1/2 inch greyling weighing 2 lbs. 2 oz.
Reports indicate good catches of greyling being made on Nome and Snake Rivers and with the trout season approaching considerable sport is available for all who wish to participate in this grandest of all outdoor sports.
