SEATTLE, (P) -- An Eskimo village is in with the first 1960 census returns, the Regional Census Bureau Office said here today.
Shungnak, Alaska, on the Kobuk River east of Kotzebue and north of the Arctic Circle, has 33 houses and 125 inhabitants.
Although April 1 is the official census starting date, Alaska is jumping the gun, with official sanction, in remote sections. The Alaska Native Service is making the count now at points which may not be reachable when spring thaws halt communications.
