Full Text

What seems to increase the perplexity of the publick in accounting for the disappointment of their late expectations from the late important expedition, is to find among this number of officers employed in it the following Gentlemen.

Sir John Mordaunt, member of parliament for Cockermouth, in Cumberland, knight of the Bath, colonel of the 10th regiment of dragoons on the British establishment, governor of Sheerness, one of the equerries to the king, and lieutenant-general ever since May 1. 1754.

H. H. Seymour Conway, member of parliament for St. Mawes in Cornwall: and colonel of the 4th regiment of light horse, on the Irish establishment; who was made a major general Jan. 30. 1756.

Hon. Edward Cornwallis, member of parliament for the city of Westminster, colonel of the 24th regiment of foot, on the British establishment, a groom of the bed chamber to the king, and a major general.

It is said Capt. H—, Capt. B—, Capt. C—, and Mr. W—, a Volunteer, in the late Expedition, went all on Shore near Rochefort, and remained on Shore unmolested two Hours.—But it was in the Night.
