THE FIRST MUNICIPALITY.—

The celebration of the Fourth passed off, in this district, with but little to mar the pleasures of the day. Each one seemed determined to eat, drink and be merry, without interfering with the rights of a neighbor, or disturbing the public peace. The Place d'Armes presented a lively spectacle throughout the day, and the saloons in the neighborhood were filled to overflowing with a lot of good fellows, drinking bumper after bumper to obtain a proper idea of our elevated position amongst the nations of the globe.
