Monroe County stayed solidly in Democratic Party ranks yesterday although Stevenson's margin of victory over Eisenhower was close to a thousand votes less than 1952.
Unofficial returns showed Stevenson racked up 4,191 votes against Eisenhower's 3,115 yesterday, a difference of 1,076. In 1952, Stevenson topped Eisenhower 4,941 to Eisenhower's 2,943 - 1,198 more votes for the Democratic nominee.
Democratic U. S. Representative Dante Fascell, running for re-election, scored 4,014 votes to his Republican opponent, Leland Hyzer's, 1,752.
LeRoy Collins, Democratic governor, received 4,670 votes. Republican William A. Washburne, Jr., was given 1,168 votes.
Monroe County's unofficial returns showed that all 11 amendments on yesterday's ballots carried in this county.
And all of the unopposed Democratic candidates won handily.
A handful of write-in votes showed up on the ballots although Oliver Folmar, Tavernier attorney, was the only person in the county who conducted an active write-in campaign.
Folmar, who was defeated in the May primaries for state representative, was trying in yesterday's election for the county commission seat held by Harry Harris.
Folmar received only 166 votes according to the unofficial returns Harris scored more than that in several precincts. In the fifteenth precinct alone, Harris got 433 votes.
