She 'Jumped' Him
An Atlanta man told police Sunday afternoon he shot the mother of a newborn child after she "jumped on him for no reason at all," detectives reported. The detectives added that the man further told them the victim "just liked to whip him once in a while."
With this explanation, police launched an investigation into the shooting of Miss Lucy Mae Giles, 26, of R-42 Yonge St. SE. and came up with three versions of the cause of the incident.
The arrested man, identified as Charlie Reed, Jr., 25, of the same Yonge St address, was the person who told police that Miss Giles "jumped on him" for no reason at all.
Miss Giles, questioned at the emergency clinic where she underwent treatment for a gunshot wound in the upper thigh, was quoted by police as saying an argument began during the progress of a card game and that the arrested man shot her. She had just given birth to a child three days prior to the Sunday incident.
Police quoted witnesses as saying Miss Giles accused Reed of cheating at cards. They were further quoted as saying Miss Giles later slapped Reed with her fist and that Reed retaliated with the butt of his pistol and then shot her as she ran out the front door of the house.
Reed was charged by police on suspicion of shooting at another.
