UN's Hammarskjold Launches New Era For Africans

ADDIS ABABA (ANP) - Hammarskjold this week launched the first session at the UN Economic Commission for Africa.

The purpose of the commission which will have its headquarters here is to aid the awakening African lands to make the most of their independence and resources under the responsibility of self-government.

The UN Secretary General pointed up the importance of the commission by stating in the presence of Emperor Haile Selassie:

"One day we may look to the establishment of the commission as marking the moment when Africa began to assume its full role in the world community."
