EVENTS IN ITALY.

Joubert, by General Orders dated at Corregliano, August 5, took command of the army lately commanded by Moreau.

Championnet, by letter, dated head-quarters, Grenoble, Aug. 10, states, that the troops of Mount Cenis, have mastered La Ferriere and the Noyalee, and were to penetrate as far as Suza, on the Po; that those of Mount Geneva, were destined by a different route to the same place; That the advanced guard of the Camp of Tourneaux, had carried the "important post" of Barricades, defended vigorously by Russians, who suffered much.

In a second letter, he mentions, that a body of his troops had taken all the posts as far as Petit St. Bernard, taking sixteen prisoners, and killing and wounding 100--losing only one; and that he was marching for Embrun.

A private article from Grenoble, Aug. 16, says, Championnet's army is 34,000 strong, is moving towards Turin; it is said to have passed Suza.

Joubert is to operate at the same time against the Appennin, and Laccourbe towards St. Gothard. Joubert has dislodged the Russians from Novi and Aqua, and penetrated to the vicinity of Alexandria and Tortona.

His left wing is directed against the Alba and Cherasco, to join Championnet before Turin.

It is expected a general engagement happened Aug. 15, throughout the whole line of the armies of the Alps and of Italy. Joubert's quarters were at Savone. Moreau, at his request, took command of the right wing, to aid in the expected general action.

Suwarrow is centering his force before Alexandria, and there the battle is expected. The French number 74,000 strong.

It is said, Suwarrow has put himself at the head of his main body, and is marching to meet Joubert.

MILAN, JULY 21. The Russians have taken Bochetta, losing 500, killed and wounded.. Enemy's loss more considerable.

Paris. The French garrison at Rome, has retired by capitulation.

The French Minister at war, says, if Mantua has surrendered, it must have been from treachery, and directs the arrest of the Commander and his staff.

It is said the citadel of Tortona has surrendered.

LONDON, SEPT. 1.

A report was yesterday in circulation, stated to be founded on the authority of a Parisian Journal, that the army under Joubert had been attacked and wholly routed by General Suwarrow, and that the Republican Commander had been killed. We devoted much labor to ascertain by whom this-paper had been received, but without effect; such an event as that mentioned to have occurred is highly probable; the contrasted power of the two armies warrants, in some degree, the anticipation; but we apprehend the rumour in question, like many others, owes its origin to some Stock-jobbing manœuvre.
