On Higgins Estate
TOMBSTONE, Ariz., June 22. (P)
-Through a decision handed down in the Cochise county superior court here today in the long drawn-out Higgins estate case, the state of Arizona will be enriched by approximately $70,000, court officials said tonight.
The state alleged that sometime before his death, Higgins formed a corporation in which several of the heirs of his estate were given stock, an effort to prevent the collection of the state inheritance taxes.
Today's decision held, in effect, that taxes must be paid on this portion of the Higgins property as well as on the estate itself, amounting to several hundred thousand dollars.
