Young Willkie Volunteers.
That bunch of political mavericks shed another party shackle Monday by refusing to accept a $100 donation.
"We cannot accept such large donations," President Russell Yeager said when news of the donation was announced by Louis Moore.
"That would certainly be against the wishes of Wendell Willkie," said Vice-President John Raymond.
"Willkie suggested that we accept no donations over $10. We don't want to be under obligation to those who make large donations." The name of the donor was not announced.
Ben Hulse, former senator and prominent political leader, gave the club advice in pre-election campaigning and precinct work. "Spend your time," he advised, "working on those opposed to Willkie or undecided." Club members thanked Hulse for his offer to give sage advice to them because they are beginners and new to the game.
Committee reports or short talks were made by Raymond, Russell Richmond, Robert Marshall, Harlow Alabaster, Milo Foster, Mrs. Paul Werve, Helen Moore, Robert Raymond and Glen Willingham.
The hat passing, the club's unique way of financing itself, netted $18.33.
