Arrest of Pickpockets.

The arrest of the famous pickpockets, Adams and Berrien, (whose escape from the Hartford jail is particularly noted in another column.) was accomplished on Sunday evening, at Dover, N. Y., by Mr. Spaulding, the assistant jailer in Hartford, who was in pursuit of them.

After leaving Hartford, they were first seen near the Waterbury river, between Harwinton and Litchfield, on Saturday, about 10 o'clock A. M. At 11, they came in sight of the village of Litchfield, and, fearing detection, they hid themselves in the grass of an open field, where they remained until near the dusk of evening.

They then left their hiding place, and passed through the village unsuspected, although Mr. Spaulding was here at the time—he having passed them while they were concealed in the grass. About half-past 8, they stopped at Mr. William Stoddard's, one mile west of this village, and obtained supper—stating that they had no money.

That night they lodged in a barn about a mile west of Chittenden's store, Woodville. Early on Sunday morning, (it having been ascertained that two young men, answering to the description of the prisoners, were seen going to the west on the previous evening,) started in pursuit, accompanied by Mr. Judd, the efficient Warden of the Litchfield County Workhouse. Having gone several miles on the New Milford and Washington routes, and hearing nothing of them, they returned to Bradleyville, where they learned that the delinquents were seen that morning in or near New Preston procuring a fresh team, and the assistance of Mr. Rouse, of Bantam Falls, Mr. Spaulding immediately pushed forward after them.

Having once got upon the right track, he found little trouble in keeping it. Toward nightfall, and when he was near the New York State Line, a heavy shower set in, by which time he had ascertained that the objects of his pursuit were about half an hour in advance of him. Following up the advantage he had gained, he kept in hot pursuit until after dark. At length, seeing a barn standing in a meadow at a considerable distance from the road, he at once regarded it with suspicion, and determined to search it. Proceeding on to Chapman's, obtained assistance and repaired to the barn referred to, where he found the young men snugly stowed away on the hay mow.

They were of course secured, and after spending the night under the care of Mr. Chapman, they were brought to Litchfield. Here they found safe quarters with Mr. Judd until Tuesday morning, when they were taken to Hartford.
