CHANCE FOR GUARD UNIT
There is a possibility that Roanoke Rapids may be selected as the location for a medical unit of the North Carolina National Guard.
These units of the National Guard are a source of pride to those few cities where they are located and provide, with weekly drill and summer maneuvers, wholesome exercise and education for the young men of the community. A small payroll to men and officers is not to be sneezed at. Best of all, with the formation of such units, is the chance for an armory later.
Committees from service organizations, civic clubs and business associations will meet here soon to discuss the matter and make formal application in behalf of Roanoke Rapids. Other places are also being considered but we believe that if Roanoke Rapids really wants a unit here and goes after it with enough spirit our city stands a good chance of being selected.
