We learn from the Sarahsville Courier of the 8th that a stabbing affair occurred at Marietville, in that county, on the 30th of December last, between a man named Samuel Ball, and the Sheriff of Noble county, Dr. F. M. Mason. The following are the particulars:
"Ball was considerably intoxicated, and used very insulting language to Mason, among other things speaking in disrespectful terms of Mason's mother: whereupon Mason made an effort to get an ax-handle that was near to strike Ball. The bystanders interfered and prevented any further difficulty at that time.
Some time afterward, as Mason was passing from his residence to a store, when near the store-door he met Ball, who inflicted a dangerous wound upon him with a large knife.—Mason then knocked Ball down with a cane and, passing into the store, upon looking at the wound and supposing it to be mortal he fired several shots at Ball from a revolver, none of which, however, took effect. It is thought that Mason will recover, though at last accounts he was not regarded as entirely out of danger.
"Ball is in jail, and of course the matter will undergo a legal investigation."
