A Cruel Imposition.--Yesterday a little girl, who, for a living, carries about from door to door, baskets of raspberries for sale, was met in the lower part of the city, by a genteel dressed man, and after enquiring how she sold them, he agreed to take three baskets, provided she would leave them at his house, corner of Anthony-street and Broadway. This the girl agreed to do, and my gentleman then drew from his pocket-book, a three dollar bill of the Newark State Bank, to pay for them. Not suspecting that any thing was wrong, the poor girl took his bill, gave him two dollars six and sixpence change in silver, (all she possessed,) rolled the bill up, and carefully put it away in her pocket. On going to the house, corner of Anthony-street and Broadway, with the raspberries, she was told that no one living there had purchased any berries of her or any other person. She then, for the first time, began to suspect that all was not right, and having shewed the three dollar bill which she had taken of the gentleman, it proved to be a counterfeit. On applying to the Police Office with tears in her eyes, for advice, she was told unless she could identify the fellow, they could give her no relief. A more cruel piece of villany could not well be played off, and the wretch who is guilty of it deserves the pillory--
