The following facts were communicated to us in a letter a few days ago. They are from a very respectable clergyman, and we therefore entertain no doubt about their correctness. They occurred in Morgan county, Va. about six miles south of Bath, on the 8th of last April, during a violent thunderstorm.
A young man who was engaged in the mercantile business, and addicted to drinking, had gone into the liquor room, with a tin cup, which having filled he was returning, and had just reached the door, when a flash of lightning ignited the liquor. The cup was dashed to the floor and continued burning till every particle of the liquor was consumed. The young man was miraculously unharmed.
For the moment he fell down in prayer and supplication, but with the cessation of the storm his anxiety and serious impressions passed off, and he has since returned to his cup. What a dreadful admonition of Providence! How demoralizing and unquenchable the appetite that would break loose from such a restraint!—Ex. Paper.
