THE LATE RACES.—Justice to one to whom, more than to any one or all others, this city and community are indebted for the fine success of the Fall races over the Carson Course, compels us again to refer to the races of last week. The affair was a fine success in every respect; it was admirably managed from the beginning, and for these the community and sporting fraternity are indebted to the foresight, the indomitable energy, perseverance and urbanity of the lessee of the course, A. K. Lamb. That gentleman saw from the beginning that, in order to make a success of the races and to draw hither large numbers of thoroughbreds and other fast horses, it would be necessary to offer liberal purses and to select for the management gentlemen in whose integrity the people had the utmost confidence. To accomplish his purpose, Mr. Lamb spent months in the most arduous labor, and if his labors were not crowned with success, financially, to himself, they at least gave the utmost satisfaction to all who attended the races; and hereafter the name of A. K. Lamb will be the synonym of success in this community in all undertakings pertaining to the turf.
