Full Text

Couldn't Wool An Irishman.—When David Tod in a recent speech at Wooster so far forgot that he claimed to be an American as to belie and abuse Winfield Scott, he met with a most pointed and mortifying rebuke. He said that "Scott had been for fifteen years courting every party and faction to secure the nomination to the Presidency. One day a Native American, and now ready to kiss the blarney stone with the Irishman, and worship the Blessed Virgin." An old Democratic Irishman, Jack Carroll, sprang and interrupted him, with—“You lie, sir, General Scott declares he is a Protestant, but I shall vote for him!"
