Champion Drivers of the United States Will Contest in This City on Decoration Day.
Indianapolis lovers of the automobile racing game will, if present plans do not fall through, have a chance to see the fastest drivers in the world in this city on Decoration day, May 30. Carl Fisher, of the Indianapolis Racing Association, and one of the promoters of the coming meet, is enthusiastic over the prospects for the great attraction.
The races will be held on the one-mile track at the state fair grounds and silver cups will be given to the winners in each event. It is generally understood that the professionals receive magnificent salaries for participating in the auto racing events in any part of the country and they also receive handsome cash prizes from the manufacturers of the machine they drive in the event of a winning.
The swiftest and most daring drivers in the country will be brought here for the meet. Champion Barney Oldfield, Tom Cooper, Earl Kiser and many others have signified their intentions of entering the big match. Kiser and Oldfield have already been matched for a five-mile match race for a $1,000 purse, and this exhibition of dare-devil driving will be worth going many miles to witness. Kiser has taken 1,100 pounds off of the machine with which he made a mile in 1:01 last summer and will give Champion Oldfield a hard brush for the victory.
