Final plans for Madison County's 68th annual Fair and agriculture exhibition are being made this week as entries are growing steadily in all the competitive categories. Again this year the junior fair division, composed of Four-H, F.F.A., FHA and Young Farmer groups is expected to take the top attraction bid.
This year's fair, as in previous years, is designed to encourage strong competition in all age groups, and between all groups. Categories are open for farmers and farm families in several groups, with particular emphasis on produce from the farm gardens and the fields.
Special divisions are set up to attract entries from school groups with Card Displays, shop displays and Home Economics exhibits.
Cash awards will be made to the various winners.
One of the highlights of the fair will be the judging of the Madison County Queen of the Furrow Contest and the district judging of the Queen of the Furrow to select representatives for the State competition to be held at the Ohio State Fair. Ten entrants from Madison County have already been entered in the contest, and some others may enter before the deadline Thursday.
Outstanding family attractions are night racing, the Roy Acuff Show, the Jack Kochman Daredevil Drivers, a tractor pulling contest and numerous midway attractions. The fair officers have expectations of getting bigger crowds than in previous years, and hope to have something to hold the interest of every member of the family.
The Madison County Garden Club exhibits are expected to be one of the main features of the fair, with judging scheduled by well qualified judges. The top club display will earn an award of $36 with others claiming good portions of prize cash. There will also be a junior exhibit section in the garden club division for beginners.
Grange exhibits can earn from $55.00 to $90.00 for the winners with Juvenile Grange exhibits of $25, $15 and $10. Competitive exhibits will also feature home sewed articles, and fancy work made in Madison County's homes. There will also be an antique exhibit and the merchants exhibits.
