Variety In Meals
By Martha W. Levi

This is Valentine week, and it is a good time for you to give a party to the gang. The flavors and decorations that make for a successful party are colorful and the occasion is excuse enough for anyone to be frilly. And because the symbols of St. Valentine are so well known you can give a successful party without much bother.

Here are several suggestive combinations: Add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to tomato juice and serve a thin slice of lemon to each portion. Serve in small red glasses and pass cheese-flavored hearts. To make the hearts, spread cream cheese mixed to a paste with hard-cooked egg yolks, salad dressing and a little horseradish on heart-shaped toast slices. Reheat and garnish with hearts cut from pimento and green pepper.

Another is mold crab or tuna salad in heart shape. Unmold on crisp lettuce. Top with mayonnaise flecked with paprika. Serve small heart rolls topped with currant jelly.

Still another is to cherry-flavored gelatine add diced pineapple, red cherries, sliced pears and minced celery. Mold in individual heart molds. Unmold on lettuce, surround with mayonnaise and decorate tops with small candied cherry hearts. Serve with heart-shaped nut-bread sandwiches.

A platter of sandwiches made with whole wheat and white bread, cut into heart shapes and spread with a thick cream cheese filling alternated with minced ham and mayonnaise reddened with vegetable coloring is an added decoration. Piping hot coffee goes hand in hand with these sandwiches. To finish off serve cookies cut in heart shapes, and decorated with tiny red candies or with red frosting.
