Full Text

The question of who captured Vasquez is settled. The San Francisco Chronicle did it. For a time it seemed as if an Alta correspondent would get away with the honor, but his claims have been disallowed, and now nothing is clearer than the Chronicle's editorial explaining how the paper performed the job. It is true that Vasquez's marauding career was closed through the untiring vigilance of Sheriff Rowland, of this county, whom only a few days ago the Chronicle sneered at and denounced as incompetent as an officer, but that all goes for nothing now. The Chronicle captured Vasquez, and the argument closes when it says: 'The Chronicle's men have indeed done good and faithful service in the actual labor of the hunts for the brigand.'
