EL PASO, Aug. 19.—Lieutenants Peterson and Davis were freed by the bandits on payment of the ransom asked, and the aviators reached the American side of the border this morning. Army officers say the donors to the reward fund will be reimbursed by the government.
Mexico to Pay Ransom.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 19.—The war department stated today that the Eighth cavalry commander had orders to cross the border as soon as the kidnapped aviators were safe. Secretary of State Lansing assured Secretary of War Baker that such an expedition was permissible.
It was stated at the Mexican embassy that Mexico would reimburse those paying the ransom.
Cavalry Enters Mexico.
EL PASO, Aug. 19.—The Eighth cavalry troops have entered Mexico below Candelaria in pursuit of the bandits. Airplanes are scouting with the cavalrymen.
Invasion of Mexico Likely.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 19.—Secretary of War Baker announced this afternoon that a swiftly moving force had been ordered to pursue the Mexican bandits. Indications are that a large invasion of Mexico is planned.
