Full Text
East and West.—We do not intend by this to refer to the late novel of brother Thompson, but to the difference of treatment to them by the Post master General. For the East is provided an Express mail to carry news from the extreme South west to the North east, at great expense. Before, their facilities for conveyance of news were great.— For providing for the East in this manner we do not Complain. We do complain of his shameful neglect of the necessities of the West. To us it is as important to receive the mails expeditiously as to the people of the East, and we can as well afford to pay for it. For us, however, is only not provided an express mail, but the regular mail is not conveyed one half the time with regularity.— Though from day to day complaints are made, no remedy is given, and the Postmaster has the power to correct the evil at any moment he may think it worth while to apply it.— How long will the people of the west look silently on and see their rights disregarded, and at the same time support and applaud the officers who thus treat them! So long as they suffer themselves uncomplainingly to be treated like dogs, so long will they be, and deserve to be.
