At a special meeting of Smyrna Town Council held on Sept. 26 A.H. Hammond, Jr. was sworn in as a member of council to fill the unexpired term of Robert Boyer, who resigned due to moving out of the state.
Lieut. David M. Todd was named in charge of the police department until a decision is made regarding the vacancy created by the resignation of Chief Eden F. Jones. William Thomas Bowers was given the rank of sergeant, and the three-man crew, which includes James Truitt will work on an eight-hour day, seven days a week schedule until a new man is hired to take the place of Lloyd Pleasanton, resigned.
Council will continue to take applications for the position of patrolman. Lieut. Todd ranks first in seniority on the force, having started work on March 5, 1951.
